USAID extends $17M for promotion of sustainable economic growth, resilience in IGAD region

Addis Ababa (HAN) June 29.2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News. USAID has extended 17 million USD to IGAD over the next five years for the promotion of sustainable economic growth and resilience as well as improvement of management of risks in transcended borders in the IGAD region.

Executive Secretary of IGAD Mahboub Maalim and USAID Mission Director of Kenya and East Africa Karen Freeman signed the agreement today in Djibouti for assistance towards the sustainability of activities presently funded by USAID to IGAD, a press release issued by IGAD said.USAID extends 17 mln USD for promotion of sustainable economic growth, resilience in IGAD region

Agriculture, natural resources and environment; economic cooperation, integration and social development; peace and security and corporate development services within the IGAD region are the activities supported by USAID.

The assistance is to strengthen the collaboration relationship and partnership between the two organizations, to outline a common understanding of how the U.S government supports IGAD priorities and to implement programs that will contribute to common goals of USAID and IGAD over the next 5 years.

USAID has partnered with IGAD since 2006 supporting the organization in delivering its mandate of strengthening security, climate change detection and analysis, resilience and economic development in the region.
