Somalia: FGS Suspends Khat flights from Kenya

Mogadishu (HAN) September 5.2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News. The federal Government of Somalia has  announced that it has suspended all Khat flights  from neighboring Kenya to Somalia temporarily.

The federal minister of Civil Aviation, Ali Ahmed Jama’ told Geeska Afrika Online and its affiliates, that the president of Somalia, HE Hassan Sheikh Mahamoud has  decided for the sake of regional security and stability issues. The Presidential decision will start on Tuesday, 6th of September, 2016.

“The Government decided to suspend all flights exporting Khat from Kenya, it is for some circumstance which I don’t want to get into detail at moment, it is the interest of the country and the decision will take effect on Tuesday”, Minister Ali Ahmed Jama said.

The federal minister of Civil Aviation, Ali Ahmed Jama added that they informed the notice to concerned institutions and this suspension is related to security or economic issues.

The presidential decree comes, because of  IGAD heads of states which will arrive in the Somali capital Mogadishu and have summit here on 10th September. 2016.
