ADDIS ABABA (HAN) November 12, 2015. Public Diplomacy & regional Security. A high-level Ethiopian government delegation headed by Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn is taking part in the two-day Valletta Summit on migration from 11 to 12 November 2015.

The Summit will provide a platform for African and European Leaders to exchange views and take decisions on the challenges and opportunities arising from migration and mobility within the two continents. It was learnt that Aid for Africa was top of the agenda.

The Valletta meeting is expected to focus on longer term problems – such as helping Africa create jobs or face global warming that is enlarging the desert – and on deals to send home hundreds of thousands of Africans already in Europe.

The African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has arrived in Valletta, Malta, to speak on the way Africa and Europe can partner and work collaboratively to reap the benefits of labour migration as well as on ways to overcome the challenges of irregular migration in the immediate, medium and long terms.

Participating AU and EU Member States are expected to agree on an Action Plan and issue a joint final declaration at the end of the Summit. It is to be recalled that member countries and delegates of the EU held discussions with higher official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia where in the county’s strategic importance in mitigating the challenge was markedly emphasized.
