Newly Adopted Resolution will help Improve Somalia as a State (VIDEO)

MOGADISHU (HAN) November 11, 2015. Public Diplomacy & regional Security. The United Nations Security Council has adopted a new resolution for the formation of a new UN Mission coined the UN Support Office in Somalia. The new body will succeed the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia. It draws from the recommendations of a joint African Union and UN review of the Federal Government and the AU Mission in Somalia.

A three-month strategic review of the Support Office, had found that its resources had not kept pace with the expansion of its task. They included support to both high-intensity military operations, as well as highly mobile political engagement in Somalia and beyond. Under the new resolution, the mission will include the provision of policy advice on peace building and state-building, development of a federal system, and coordination of international donor support.
