IGAD calls for dialogue and compromise on Ethiopian dam

DJIBOUTI – The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has called upon Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan to resolve disputes on Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) through dialogue.
The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu encouraged the three countries to resort to dialogue and compromise in bringing a solution to the negotiations on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

‘The negotiation of an arrangement to pave the way for a win-win agreement is the only solution for all’, Dr. Workneh said.

Dr. Workneh urged the leadership of the respective states to avoid steps that can lead to further tensions and escalate the current situation.

‘The region cannot afford tensions and we should stay away from anything that would contribute to building them up between neighboring countries that share the history and are bound by a common destiny’, he said.

‘IGAD is confident in the African Union-led the process to bring about a solution acceptable to Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt’, the Executive Secretary added.
