Ethiopia to Host the First International Agro-Industry Investment Forum

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) November 19, 2015. Public Diplomacy & regional Security. Ethiopia is going to host the First International Agro-Industry Investment Forum in May next year. Co-organized by the Government of Ethiopia and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Forum is scheduled to be held from May 2-4, 2016.

Ahmed Shide, State Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation, at a briefing session held on Thursday (November 18), noted that Ethiopia’s economy was continuing to move into technologically-driven and high-value activities, like agriculture biotechnology, agro-processing, bio-farming, dairy farming, seed production and technology-based farming.

Fitsum Arega, Director General of Ethiopian Investment Commission, also stressed that the agro-processing sector was looking to both domestic and foreign investors. He added that the sector had potential advantages in terms of the country’s low labor costs, its growing domestic market and its proximity to the European market.

Close to 600 high-level officials, representatives of international organizations, banks, investors, multi-national companies and industrial associations are expected to take part in the Forum next May. MFA
