Ethiopia: Taye Atske-selassie Meets the European Union Delegation to Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) February 3, 2016 – Public Diplomacy and Regional Stability Initiatives News. State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atske-selassie met Ms Claudia Wiedey-Nippold, and other delegates from the European Union as part of the follow-up process to Foreign Minister, Dr. Tedros Adhanom’s recent visit to Brussels. Ms Wiedey-Nippold presented a draft aide-memoire of possible actions under the Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility).

She said this would help in the identification of priority areas and the drafting of an action plan to be annexed to the Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility agreement, signed last November. Ms Wiedey-Nippold stressed these areas should then be translated into projects to be classified and mapped.

State Minister Ambassador Taye noted that the Ethiopian government had also put in place punitive measures in its efforts to combat illegal migration and pointed out it had taken several legal measures to punish human traffickers. In addition, he said, a National Committee involving a number of different stakeholders had also been established to mitigate the adverse effect of migration.

Ms. Wiedey-Nippold said the delegation would be discussing the draft aide-memoire with other relevant Ethiopian bodies and meet again with the State Minister after their discussions. Ambassador Taye said the Ethiopian Government welcomed the proposals and he reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness and commitment to work with European Union. MFA
