Djibouti (HAN) May 30, 2014 – The Djibouti Chamber of Commerce, Camp Lemonnier, and the U.S. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, hosted a Djibouti Business Exchange (DBE) event at the Djibouti Palace Kempinski in Djibouti.
The first day of the exchange was a seminar focused on familiarizing the vendors with the U.S. military’s contracting processes., according to CJTF-HOA (Africom) media source in Djibouti.
“This will allow the U.S. military and Department of Defense to do contracts with the local vendors,” said U.S. Navy Capt. Julie Hammond, CJTF-HOA Contingency Contracting Office chief of contracting. “It will help them grow their businesses and the local economy.”
The second day’s objective was to register the vendors in various systems to allow them to contract for the U.S. Government. The last day gave vendors the opportunity to meet with possible buyers.
“Local businesses get their names and capabilities out there,” said U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. William Ritcher, CJTF-HOA J-4 Logistics. “Advertizing is essential to any business. The potential for increased revenue and establishing long term working relationships is huge.”
More than 30 vendors participated the final day of the DBE. Their services and products included: food and beverage, logistics, information technology products, accounting services, auto parts and repairs, construction services, construction supplies, appliances, hardware and tools, utility installation, and rental vehicles.
“As a logistics planner in the J-4 shop, sourcing items can be difficult at best,” Ritcher said. “The business exchange makes local merchants known to me that I may not have otherwise [known about]. This business exchange brings everyone together and everyone stands to benefit from it.”
