Burkina Faso: Military Controls Parts of New Government

Ouagadougou (HAN) November 24, 2014. Expert Analysis, Your Power & Regional Influence Magazine, Transitional leaders have agreed on a new government to guide the country to elections next year, allocating several key cabinet posts to members of the military. Former President Blaise Compaoré, who held onto power for 27 years, resigned last month amid protests against his bid to stay in office. Lt. Col. Isaac Yacouba Zida initially took control but was pressed to restore civilian rule. Last week, a former diplomat, Michel Kafando, was sworn in as president and will also serve as minister of foreign affairs. Colonel Zida will run the Defense Ministry, and army officers were also put in charge of the Energy, Territorial Administration and Sports Ministries.
