Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie Meets the Republic of Fiji Delegation

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) November 12, 2015. Public Diplomacy & regional Security. The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie met a delegation from the Republic of Fiji on Thursday (November 12).

The delegation was led by Brigadier General Mosese Tikoitoga and had been sent by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji to discuss with the Ethiopian government about the possibilities of establishing bilateral diplomatic relations and the opening of a mission in Ethiopia.

The head of the delegation emphasized that the Government of the Republic of Fiji was fully aware of the strategic importance of Ethiopia in Africa and its links with other African countries and with international organizations working in Africa.

The State Minister said the Ethiopian Government welcomed the decision to strengthen bilateral relations and work together on common socio-political, economical and cultural issues. This was especially the case as Fiji had a profound historical commonality with Africa. Ambassador Taye told the delegation that it was in effect “coming back home.”

The State Minister also expressed the government’s commitment to work together on the protocols for the establishment of the mission and other necessary steps. MFA
