Djibouti: Djibouti President concludes official visit to Somalia

Djibouti (HAN) February 23, 2015 – Regional Public Diplomacy News. The President of the Republic of Djibouti, HE Ismail Omar Gelle and his delegation have departed Mogadishu International Airport, concluding a two-day (21-22 February) state visit to Somalia.

During his visit, President Gelle held talks with the President of Federal Republic of Somalia, HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and other high ranking officials.

President Mohamud and President Gelle together laid the foundation stone of a new regional academy for Somali language that will bring together Somalia, Djibouti and the Somali-inhabited regions in Ethiopia and Kenya.

The two leaders also made a brief visit to Beledweyne, the provincial capital of Hiiraan region, where they called for the cessation of hostility between warring Somali clans who have been fighting in parts of that region recently.
The President of Somalia thanked President Gelle and the people of Djibouti for their valuable and significant support to Somalia, including the contribution of Djibouti to the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM).
