Kenya: kenya cashless commuter payment system

November 19.2014. (HAN) Public diplomacy and Regional Financial investment news. The system will see Kenya’s public transport sector fully transition from cash to electronic, with thousands of commuters using payment cards to pay for their fare.

It would be another first for the East African nation, which is riding high with use of mobile money, where transactions have hit 2.3 billion U.S. dollars per month.

“I know the government would roll out the cashless system at the start of December but I do not trust it,” Mohammed Hamisi, a pharmacist in Nairobi, said on Sunday.
