UNSOM mourns former Ghana President Jerry Rawlings

UNSOM has mourned the death of former Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings who passed away on Thursday last week.
United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia extended condolences to the family and friends of the late leader.
He recalled President Rawlings’s tenure as African Union representatives in Somalia 2010-2012 to spearhead efforts of peace and stability in the horn of the African nation.

“UNSOM is saddened to learn of the passing of #Ghana’s former President Jerry Rawlings, who served as the AU High Representative for Somalia in 2010-2012, and extends its condolences to his family, friends and compatriots.”
Jerry Rawlings led the west African country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979.

He also led a military junta until 1992, and then served two terms as the democratically elected president of Ghana.
