Taban Deng Gai replaces Riek Machar as First Vice President

former Mining Minister Taban Deng Gai has been sworn in as First Vice President. He’s replacing Riek Machar after President Salva Kiir officially relieved him of the position. Deng Gai is a key member of the opposition SPLM IO party. He was instrumental in negotiating the peace deal that ended the civil war between Kiir and Machar.
