Ethiopia to Fly in Eight Athletes to participate in a Marathon

Kampala (HAN) May 9.2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News.By Paul Adude . Ethiopian Airlines has pledged to fly in eight athletes from Addis Ababa to participate in the Afrika Mashariki Fest (AMF) half marathon that will take place on May 29 at Kololo Independence Grounds.

Mr Abebe Angessa, the airlines country manager, handed over eight air tickets worth Shs15m to Mr Kisembo Tendo, the chief executive officer of AMF at the airlines’ offices in Kampala on Friday.

“The athletes will arrive in the country on May 27 so as to prepare for the marathon. I myself will be participating in the 21km race alongside my friends,” Mr Angessa said.

“We are glad to partner with this youth group in this regional integration initiative because such activities are also in line with our corporate social responsibility,” he said.

Mr Kisembo stated that he was humbled by Ethiopian Airlines gesture of flying in the athletes.

 The marathon

Afrika Mashariki Fest half marathon is aimed at promoting the spirit of regional integration by increasing awareness about the East Africa Community federation, fostering cohesion among the people of the bloc, as well as promote domestic tourism in the Great Lakes region.

Ethiopian Airlines, Nation Media Group (NMG) companies; Monitor Publications Ltd, Kfm, NTV, Dembe Fm and The East African are the sponsors of the event in partneship with The Aga Khan hospital, Riham, Tendo Grill Ltd and Nakumatt.

Registration

Registration is ongoing at five outlets in Kampala at Nakumatt Oasis mall, Nakumatt Acacia mall, KCCA city hall, Constitutional Square and Aga khan University Hospital Kampala.
