Farm Africa to open regional office in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) April 26, 2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News. State Minister Ambassador Taye Atske-selassie and Mr. John Morris, Country Director of Farm Africa signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today (April 26) to open Farm Africa’s regional office in Addis. Mr. John Morris said, “The government has been very supportive for the last two and half decades.”

He added, “Opening our regional office here would further encourage us to do more.” Although the economy is diversifying, agriculture and livestock are still the main source of income for many people in Ethiopia. Mr. John Morris noted that from dairy goats and good quality seeds to business training and forest conservation, Farm Africa provides simple and practical support to help lift farmers and herders out of poverty. Mr. John added, “Farm Africa works on environment resilience in Afar, Somali and SNNP Regional States, on preserving eco-system in Bale and on food security in Tigray Regional State.”

Ambassador Taye appreciated Farm Africa for its meaningful contribution in areas of agriculture and livestock since 1988. Ambassador Taye added the establishment of regional office in Ethiopia would catalyze agricultural developments in the region.
