Somalia: Government Soldier Open Fire On Minibus

Mogadishu (HAN) November 29, 2015 – Public Diplomacy and Regional Stability Initiatives News. Sources told Geeska Afrika Online, one civilian died and others slightly injured after Somali government soldier opened fire on a minibus in Buurane locality of Middle Shabelle region, witness said.

The minibus which was reportedly heading to Galkayo town was indiscriminately fired by gunmen in Somali National Army uniform. Speaking to Goobjoog News one of the passengers whose brother died in the incident said that the minibus came under fire from government soldiers at checkpoint in Buurane village.

“My brother, Abukar Mohamed died and another passenger sustained injuries after Somali government soldiers opened fire on our minibus” he said.

The traders and drivers have several times called on the Federal Government to take immediate action of removing the illegal checkpoints in the region. Armed men with SNA uniform set up roadblocks to demand cash from drivers who constantly use the busy main highway connecting different towns.

The Federal government carried out several operations to remove the illegal roadblocks set by the men dressed in military uniform but no change was so far felt according to the drivers.
