America's assistance to Ethiopia would continue
New York (HAN) April 3rd, 2008- Prime Minister Nur Adde received Italian Fund while his counter part of Ethiopia Ato.Malez zenawi  held talks with the 19 member delegation of the American Congress led by Senator Jomes Inhofe.

The delegation has conferred with Prime Minister Meles on ways of scaling up the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Senator Inhofe said the two sides have conferred on issues like anti-terrorism, education and health particularly HIV/AIDS. Member of the delegation, Senator Michael Enzi said the efforts being made by Premier Meles and First Lady Azeb Mesfin to fight HIV/AIDS is appreciable. He said that the Premier and his wife have been showing good administration on Millennium Development Goals, education and other sectors.

Meles on his part said that the bilateral relation with the US is focuses on important sectors. The cooperation and support is worth appreciation, a Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Despite the fact that Ethiopia faces all kinds of internal and external problems and that democratic institutions are in the process of formation, what makes Ethiopia the target? Why make aid to Ethiopia conditional to good governance, human rights and democracy when the country is making progress in all fronts? Why are countries, such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan not targeted? Why is the rogue state of Eritrea, the architect of instability in the Horn of Africa, exempted from such treatment? Given the human rights abuses perpetrated in the U.S., on what moral ground do the critics come with such human rights accusations? Why these double standards? What will the loss of Ethiopia, a staunch ally; mean to U.S.’s fighting terrorism in Africa and the Middle East? What country in the Horn of Africa, other than Ethiopia, could contribute to and bring peace and stability to Eastern Africa, Africa and the world? Why defeat the win-win cooperation between the US and Ethiopia? Who will gain from the passing of HR-2003 as Ethiopia is not likely to accept it?

Members of the delegation said America's assistance to Ethiopia would continue.

HIV/AIDS prevention and medicine supply takes the primary place among the sectors the two countries are cooperating.

Meanwhile: The Ninetheen memeber delegation of U.S Senates and Congressmen has been visiting historical places in northern Ethiopia.

The delegation visited Axum Obelisk, Axum Tsion Mariam Church and the palace of Queen of Sheba.

Delegation head Senator James Inhofe said on the occasion the visit has enabled him to grasp the depth of Ethiopian civilization and was very much amazed by the obelisk cut out of a single stone.

First Lady Azeb Mesfin, who accompanies the delegation, said on her part the visit would further consolidate the longstanding relationship of the peoples of the two countries.

The delegation also visited historical places in Lalibella of the Amhara State, it was learnt.
