Eritrea:
Accused of carrying out a series of large-scale terrorist acts
on Somalia territory
Djibouti (HAN) July 6th, 2008 - The Geeska
Afrika Online Security reporter in Mogadishu reported today that
the Somali Islamist fighters in Southern & Central Somalia have
stepped up their activities this season and that the Al-Shabab
and Asmara Islamist groups (ARS) are behind a series of murders
and attacks against TNG law-enforcement personnel and the
Ethiopian soldiers.
The Al-Shabab and Eritrean Security Secret Group in Somalia
are operating underground, carrying out, in essence, guerrilla
warfare. They have drawn up lists of Somali individuals targeted
for liquidation and are working through those lists. The new
tactics of ambush and guerrilla actions have been peculiar to
the Al-Shabab from the start.
Southern Somalia explosion: A huge explosion rocked in
village which comes under El-Wak town in Gedo region in far
southern Somalia and as par the extent known two people are
confirmed dead.
The actual point where the incident occurred is a tiny village
which falls between Gosarey and Inda El villages which all come
under El-Wak District bordering the Kenya town of El-Wak as well
"It is widely believed that these two men who died in the
aftermath of the explosion died after they lit fire in a place
where there was a rust grenade and instantly the bomb went off
and killed the two cattle herders.
The bomb is believed to be one of the remainders which were left
in the area during inter clan battles which have wrecked Somalia
for the past 17 years, including the most recent ones in the
region between the AlIttihad and the SNF militiamen.
There are no other casualties caused by that explosion apart
from those two people who have deceased.
The two men who passed away in the blast are said to be cousins,
and were buried at Dudale location in the Gedo region. So far
there is no comment from the El-Wak district administration
regarding about the death of these two men.
Meanwhile: UN humanitarian officials say the security situation
in Somalia deteriorated dramatically over the past week. They
say civilians, humanitarian workers and civil society groups
have been targeted in various parts of the country.
For example, 40 civilians, mainly women and children, were
reported killed in Mogadishu. Most were caught in crossfire or
died when mortar shells hit their homes. At least 70 civilians
were wounded in the city.
UN officials also say it's getting even more difficult to
deliver humanitarian aid. Nevertheless, the world food program
says it has increased food assistance to the displaced along the
corridor between Mogadishu and Afgooye. The number of people
receiving food aid in that area is now 326,000, up from 200,000
in May. The WFP is planning to send a food ship from Durban by
the middle of this month, but so far there is no naval escort
available to protect it from pirates.
