Djibouti: U.S. Strategy Against ISIS

Djibouti (HAN) September 17, 2014 – Geeska Afrika Online Daily Security Briefing. Secretary Hagel and General Dempsey on ISIS Threat.: Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Martin Dempsey testified on President Obama’s strategy for combating ISIS* militants. Secretary Hagel outlined the administration’s approach that includes expanded airstrikes, additional U.S. personnel in Iraq, and training Syrian rebel forces opposed to ISIS. General Dempsey said he supports the president’s strategy but added that if building a coalition fails, his recommendations could include ground forces.

Representative Doug Collins (R-GA), a member of the House Foreign Affairs and Oversight and Government Reform Committees, talked about President Obama’s strategy to “degrade and destroy” ISIS*militants, and whether Congress would offer support.

Representative Peter Welch (D-VT), chief deputy minority whip in the U.S. House, talked about the White House’s strategy to “degrade and destroy” ISIS* militants and whether lawmakers would ultimately support President Obama’s proposal.

President Obama’s ISIS Strategy : Eli Lake talked about President Obama’s strategy to combat ISIS* militants in Iraq and Syria. He also discussed questions surrounding the legality of the plan.
