Eritrea: Cairo to boost peace, security and stability in the Horn of Africa

Asmara (HAN) September 11, 2014 – Regional defense and security news. Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi discussed developments in Somalia, Ethiopia, South-Sudan, Sudan and Djibouti with Eritrean President Isias Afwerki, during Afwerki’s second visit to his regime’s regional powerful ally since winning last military election in Egypt.

“This meeting between Afwerki and Al-sisi’ powerful leaderships in the region is important in light of the circumstances facing Africa and Arab nations,” Eritrean news agency quoted Egyptian Foreign Minister as saying on the sidelines of the last month Ethio-Egypt mini-summit in Addis Ababa.

Egyptian Foreign Minister hoped their meeting “could help resolve the Horn of Africa’s border and social problems” such as the difficulties facing “Eritrean and Ethiopia as well as the sedition in Sudan and differences in South-Sudan.”

Both Sisi’s government and Eritrean leader has cracked down on supporters of Muslimbrotherhood in Eritrea and Egypt. Sisi’s government jailed  Morsi, Egypt’s first Muslim brotherhood elected as a president, while killing 1,400 people in street clashes, and jailing some 16,000 Islamist and Egyptian protesters peacefully.

Eritrea leader and Egypt both agreed to designate the Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood organisation as a “terrorist group” while Eritrean military and security has cracked down on Islamist activists on its Eritrean soil.

They also discussed “means of strengthening Red sea security cooperation between” Cairo and Asmara, and for regional security Both leaders has negotiated an arms deal with Moscow.
