Somalia: U.S. Navy launches first series of drone and ground Operations

Mogadishu (HAN) September 2nd, 2014 – National security and regional threat level news. Africom: U.S. military forces carried out military operation against Al-Shabaab militants in Southern Somalia, a U.S. Department of Defense spokesman said.

 

“We are assessing the results of the operation and will provide additional information as and when appropriate,” Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement.

According to Geeska Afrika Online security corespondent in Mogadishu, No further details about the Africom operation in Southern Somalia, but Somali National army headquarter in Mogadishu provided a detailed statement about the allied opeartions towards the main city of Barawe control by Al-Shabaab militants in Southern Somalia.

Somali militants of Al-Shabaab is an Islamist group affiliated with al Qaeda that wants to impose its own strict version of Islam in Somalia. It ruled most of the southern region of Somalia from 2006 until 2011, when African peacekeeping troops marched into the capital, Mogadishu.
