The Somali government says it has suspended all flights carrying khat from Kenya to Somalia for reasons of national interest , officials said.
Ali Ahmed Jangali , said they had acted due to ” national interests . ” He declined to elaborate these factors . ” It is a temporary measure and have made for several reasons relating to national interest , ” said Jangali . ”
I’m not ready to give more details . ” Kenya is the country used in international flights into Somalia , and where much of khat shipment commences . It is estimated there are 20 airline trips per week from Nairobi to Somalia, carrying khat. Of khat traders estimate that about 20 tons of khat from Kenya Somalia are arriving every day.
