Ethiopia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference

The Ethio-China (Guangdong) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference commenced at HiltonHotels in Addis Ababa today (September 01, 2016). The conference brought together more than 150 outstanding business delegates from China (Guangdong province) with more than 300 local Businessmen. The conference marked a new beginning of further trade relations between Ethiopia and China with the signing of 19 new projects worth 337 million USD.

Head of the Delegation and Governor of the Peoples Government of Guangdong Province Honorable Zhu XiaoDan thanked leaders and businesses of both countries for the roles they played to ensure that the conference was a success. He also recommended four key areas of engagement. Enhancing production capacity, Expanding infrastructure cooperation, more exhibitions and Forums and enhancing the people to people ties.

The guest of honor, Dr. Arkebe Equbay welcomed the delegates from Guangdong and noted that Ethiopia was planning to create 200,000 jobs every year through light manufacturing industries, under which he invited Chinese investors to participate in the sector.

Ethiopian Investment Commission commissioner, Fitsum Arega on his part gave answers to queries from the delegates. He stressed “Ethiopia peruses a free market policy thus equally protects beginners and pioneer investors”.
