Sudanese rebels agree to AU peace proposal

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) August 9.2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News. Four groups of the opposition umbrella Sudan Call have signed the Roadmap Agreement for peace and dialogue brokered by the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP).

The four groupings, including the National Umma Party (NUP), the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement /North (SPLM-N), the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-MM), signed the roadmap in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday (August 08, 2016).

Following the signing of the roadmap, Head of the NUP, al-Sadig al-Mahdi related that AUHIP will convene a meeting, under which, he added, the Sudan call group expects to discuss confidence building measures.

He further said, “We believe that after the signature we will arrange this meeting and this meeting will lead to further discussions between the two sides to come to terms about how to continue this Sudanese process inside Sudan after the confidence building process is fulfilled.”
