House approves over 274B birr for the coming fiscal year

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) July 4.2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News. The Ethiopian House of Peoples’ Representatives has approved over 274 billion birr for the coming Ethiopian fiscal year today (July 5). Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn noted Ethiopian industry and service sectors have shown growth of 7%. The Premier added that at the end of the budget year a slower rate of economic growth was observed due to the impact the EL-nino driven drought has had on the country’s agricultural products. He said, “The government has expended 800 million dollar to control the impacts of drought”.  The Prime Minister also noted that the government has done a number of activities to deal with problems related to the exercise of good governance.

Mentioning that Ethiopia has been elected to be a non-permanent member of the UNSC, the Premier said this was the result of the country’s consistent diplomatic efforts. Underlining Ethiopia’s willingness to negotiate with Eritrea, Prime Minister Hailemariam however said, if Eritrea attempts to destabilize Ethiopia, the government will take proportional measures. The Parliament has approved 274,373,197,248 (two hundred seventy four billion three hundred seventy three million one hundred ninety seven thousand and two hundred forty eight birr) under budget proclamation 970/2008.
