15th Ethiopian Box Federation General Conference elects new executive committee members

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) April 26, 2016. Public Diplomacy & Regional Security News. BY YARED GEBREMEDEN. The Ethiopian Box national team is in the final position to take a decisive competition at Azerbaijan over the coming months to get the final qualifier to attending the Olympic Games at Rio, the Ethiopian Box Federation told the Herald over the weekend.

The Federation has undertaken its 15th General conference and has elected new executive committee members including a new president from SNNPS.

The Federation has elected Eyasu Wossen Birhanu as a new president and new executive committee members have also been elected from the different state administrations who have presented representatives to the conference.

The executive committee members who were serving the federation for two and more years were also given recognition and made honourable members of the federation as they have completed their election period.

Federation Office Head Paulos Mada, told The Herald that the general conference have overlooked on the last budget years performance of the federation and have approved the plan for the current budget year after ample and constructive discussions.

Lack of sufficient researches on box sport, limitations related to international tournaments and training, lack of commitment of the executive committee in searching and working for sponsorship by exerting maximum effort, ring quality which couldn’t meet the international standard and limited number of national and international competitions, lack of clubs and referees in the box sport are the things that are raised during the discussion in the conference as the major things that demands to be overlooked and considered in the remedial measures to be taken as future important considerations by the federation and all responsible stakeholders.

Education and training Senior Expert at the Federation, Yohannes Birhane, said that awards were also given during the 15th General conference for athletes who have come back home having three Bronze Medals in the Box Sport after fighting in competitions ranging from 45-75 Kg Weight categories at Congo Brazzaville in All African Games representing Ethiopia.

Yohannes added that decisions related to allowance increase for referees and the election of executives that will lead the federation for the coming years were conducted during the General Conference.

Box is one of the Olympic sport games that Ethiopia is being represented in many different national, continental and international competitions and has managed to secure significant number of medals as of now.
