Ethiopia: Working to be a Member of the Non-Permanent Member of the Security Council

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) January 6, 2016 – Public Diplomacy and Regional Stability Initiatives News. Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros said on Saturday (January 02) that preparations had been made to make Ethiopia a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Dr. Tedros said the country was the only candidate from East Africa and lobbying was underway by using best experience of other countries in view of election campaign and human resource. The Minister added that activities were also being carried out with regard to structure and logistics preparations.

Ethiopia’s success in securing 186 votes out of the 190 during the membership election of UN human right council shows the country is positioned favorably, he stated. Ethiopia had served as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on two occasions from 1967-68 and 1989-90. MFA
