Uganda: AWQAF Training

KAMPALA (HAN) January 2, 2016 – Public Diplomacy and Regional Stability Initiatives News. The first ever international Awqaf training workshop shall be held between 15th and 17th of January 2015 Hotel Africana in Kampala. The workshop is sponsored by the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group- IDBG and is coordinated by The National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa (AWQAFSA) and The National Awqaf Foundation of Uganda (NAFU).

Over 50 participants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, South Sudan, South Africa and other countries are expected to attend. Talking about the training Mr. Muhammed Seempijja the chairman of The National Awqaf Foundation of Uganda said that, the AWQAF SA has been instrumental in the formation and development of NAFU and acts as facilitator, mentor, and consultant to NAFU.  The workshop is a result of several trainings by AWQAF SA in which many members of NAFU were invited.

The workshop shall look at the need for an integrated AWQAF approach and identify existing gaps, challenges and opportunities that may be recommended for adoption to enhance and promote AWQAF in East Africa and the world. The main facilitators are Dr. Osman Babiker Ahmed from the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and Mr. Zeinoul Abedien Cajee , from The National Awqaf Foundation of South Africa (AWQAF SA). On 15th January 2015 a community dinner will be held where the participants including prominent and corporate Muslims plus businessmen will attend. At least half a dozen individuals and organisations that have promoted Awqaf either through donation or custody shall each be awarded with each a Certificate of Recognition.
