Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie meets with Ambassador Vsevolod Tkachenko

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) December 2, 2015 – Public Diplomacy and Regional Stability Initiatives News. State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ethiopia, Ambassador Vsevolod Tkachenko on Wednesday (December 2).

Ambassador Tkachenko said his government was keen to increase bilateral relations over security issues and collaborate with Ethiopia in fighting terrorism. The Ambassador said the Russian Federation would like to reach the whole of the Horn of Africa in terms of fighting terrorism.

State Minister Ambassador Taye, who expressed his gratitude for the support Russia rendered to Ethiopia in the United Nations Security Council, emphasized that terrorism destabilized governments, undermined civil society, jeopardized peace and security, and threatened economic and social development.

The danger it posed was international. Command and control of terrorist groups, recruitment, training, operations and targets could all be located in different countries. Counter-terrorist measures could, in fact, only be effective when all nations cooperated in fighting against it.

Ambassador Taye said that a bilateral agreement on collaboration against terrorism would be a step towards the necessary universal cooperation for its prevention. MFA
