AfDB Development Effectiveness Review 2015 of Ethiopia Launched Today

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) November 19, 2015. Public Diplomacy & regional Security. The African Development Bank Development Effectiveness report on Ethiopia 2015 was launched today (November 18) at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa.

The report presents ‘Development in Ethiopia’ under the five areas it identified in its strategy 2013-2022 as essential to inclusive growth: social economic, spatial, and political inclusion, and building a competitive economy.

Elaborating in the development under economic inclusion, for instance, the AfDB report noted Ethiopia as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world with a GDP growth rate in 2013 of 9.7%, and an average growth of 10% for the past decade.

This it points out compares very favorably with the 6.2% average of comparative countries. The report also notes that despite high population growth, Ethiopia’s GDP per capita has more than tripled over the last eight years, from US$171 in 2005 to US$ 550 in 2013.

Among the development figures it underlines are power generation capacity tripling from 791MW to 2177 MW in 8 years, the investment of 33% of GDP in the country’s ambitious national development programs and 2.5 million people moved out of poverty since 2005.

The report also presents reviews of various topics including the way the AfDB contributes to Ethiopia’s development and the efficiency of its operations as an organization in Ethiopia. MFA
