Ethiopia Presents its best Practices in Energy Sector

ADDIS ABABA (HAN) October 30, 2015 – Public Diplomacy and Regional food Security Initiatives News. In an event held at sidelines of the World Energy Council Executive summit, which is being held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia presented its best practices in energy sector on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at UNECA.

Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electricity, Motuma Mekasa, said Ethiopia IS aggressively working to utilize its untapped renewable energy sources and to diversify its source of energy. The minister pointed out that Ethiopia is striving to generate power from hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal and dry waste. He underlined that Ethiopia’s power generation mega projects are being built with the intention of realizing regional integration and mutual growth.

Chief operator in Ethiopian Electric Power Transmission, Abebe Kahsay said that Ethiopia working to acquire technology, knowledge and best practices in energy sector from different countries and also striving to build domestic capacity in power production, transmission and management. He stressed that Ethiopia’s energy sources are by and large clean energy as the source of energy is predominantly hydro-power. He also mentioned Ethiopia working to ensure energy efficiency, conservation, sustainability and while also working on natural resource conservation works to build green economy.

World Energy Council Executive summit participants appreciated Ethiopia’s unreserved effort to build green energy. Also participants commended Ethiopia’s endeavor to bring regional integration through electric power lines and stressed that other developing nations should follow foot-steps of Ethiopia in green energy policy and strategy.MFA
